Make friends with your sewing machine (or one of our sewing machines) in this 2-hour introductory class. In Beginner Sewing 1, you will learn the basics of how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin, sew a straight seam forward and in reverse, and sew zig-zag and other specialty stitches, as well as when to use each stitch. You will leave with the confidence to get started sewing on your own, or sign up for one of our beginner classes!

If you've never sewn before, this class is mandatory before renting a sewing machine for sew-by-the-hour at the make 1 studio.

Level: Beginner. You do not need to have any sewing experience at all! Ages 14+.

Supplies: If you would like to bring your own sewing machine, please ensure it is in good working order and, if it hasn't been used in a while, recently serviced. Bring your sewing machine and manual (very important!), as well as some good quality thread (this can be purchased at make 1). If you can't find your manual, most can be found online by searching the make and model of your machine - we recommend printing it off for your reference. Fabric and all other supplies will be provided.

*Note: All Covid-19 precautions apply - attendance is limited to allow for adequate distancing, and each attendee will have their own workstation, tools, iron and ironing board. Masks are mandatory, and proof of vaccination is required.
