Yes, you CAN sew your own tee shirt with knit fabric! The Lark Tee from Grainline Studio is a great project for learning the basics of sewing knits with a regular sewing machine (no serger required).
From the pattern designer:
With a modern, slim fit ideal for layering, the Lark Tee is your closet’s new best friend. It’s great on its own or under your favorite button up, sweater, or blazer. All four sleeves are interchangeable with each of the necklines resulting in 16 potential different tees in one pattern!
Techniques involved include sewing with knits, straight seams, and attaching binding.
Suggested Fabrics: Light to medium weight jersey knits with a minimum of 20% stretch. Extra fabric may be needed to match plaids, stripes, and one way print designs.
Difficulty: Advanced Beginner (No previous garment sewing experience is necessary, but confident basic sewing skills, including following a simple pattern and sewing curves, will be helpful.)
Cost: $100, includes paper pattern, does not include supplies
Instructor: Becky Swainson from Twelve Bees
Min. 2, max. 4 participants
Supplies: Fabric (amount specified in the pattern for your size; prewashed and dried), good quality thread, a ballpoint or jersey needle for sewing knits, a walking foot for your sewing machine.
Bring your sewing machine, a basic set of sewing notions (scissors, pins, thread, seam ripper, etc.). Sewing machines are also available to rent by the hour at an additional cost if you don't have your own (contact make 1 prior to the class to arrange rental). A detailed supply list will be sent out upon registration.
